Sorrento means unwinding under the warm Mediterranean sun or next to the turquoise waters of the sea, but also discoving the rich history and culture of this historic stretch of coastline, which has been a popular retreat for travelers since the Greek and Roman times. From Sorrento, daytrips to Capri, Ischia, Positano, Amalfi, Pompeii, and Herculaneum are easily arranged. You can take also spend the day walking or at sea, with boat tours or fishing trips with local skippers. Sorrento's harbor is just a few minutes walk away, where public ferries and private boat trasfers depart for Capri, Ischia, Procida and Naples, and the beach is about six minutes by foot.
For gourmands, there are a number of excellent wineries and artisan limoncello producers in the area, so you can sample some of the best vintages along with Sorrento's beloved lemon liqueur, made with the uniquely intense fruit from the coast's many lemon groves. Sorrento has wonderful shops and boutiques along the main street just outside Palazzo Januzzi, and traditional artisan workshops in the old town a few steps away. The Januzzi family also owns the large store in the same building as Palazzo Januzzi Relais, which is a landmark for fine arts from Sorrento.
